520 _aDVD looks at the best of Byron Lee and The Dragonaires at Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival in 2006 held in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Before reggae or even Ska was known outside of the Caribbean, Byron Lee was the first band leader to achieve an international following playing Jamaican music and played a vital role in popularizing it around the world. One of the first Ska bands, The Dragonaires, a fourteen piece outfit whose line-up was always changing (and sometimes worked under the name the Ska-Kings) toured throughout the Caribbean and into North America spreading the Ska sound. Foresight, professionalism, vigor and commitment are just a few of the principles that govern the life of a man many call "The Dragon". Byron Lee is undoubtedly one of Jamaica's finest musical ambassadors, and with fifty years of experience and over one hundred and fifty awards he continues to command respect and admiration world-wide. Featured on the DVD is a performance never before seen covering the highlights of fifty years playing Caribbean music. Byron Lee is joined on stage at the 2006 Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival "The art of music" by some of the people who influenced him and travelled along the path that brought him where he is today.
