This manuscript consists of two books of the same size and content. In the books are two letters that were written by Lieutenant H. Senior to his mother and brother. He wrote the letter to his mother from the Lester Coffee Estate about the hurricane of 1815, which devastated Jamaica; while to his brother, Nassau, he wrote from Up Park Camp, describing a voyage from Falmouth to Barcelona in Spanish America and from there to Jamaica in 1813 and 1814. He also made mention of the capture of his ship and its crew by an American privateer flying a British flag and he recounted his adventures until his arrival in Port Royal, Jamaica. This manuscript was loaned by Miss Maxwell of Ocho Rios on February, 1963. These letters are a part of the Nassau Senior Collection that can be located in the National Library of Wales. In 1849 Lieutenant Henry Senior published a novel entitled Henry Vernon, a Transatlantic Tale, in which most of the adventures described were those related in the letter to his brother, Nassau.
