The Maroon Treaties acknowledged the freedom of the Maroons within the lands demarcated by the British authorities. the Maroon land grants were the 'spoils of war'. Since wars in Islam are fought in defense of the cause of Isalm, both the treaty bringing the hostilities to an end with the aim of establishing peace , and the accompanying spoils of war, are sacred o Muslims, and were considered similarly sacrossanct by the Maroons.
