This material represents two letters (autograph correspondence): Letter 1 is an autograph letter signed, King's House, Spanish Town February 22, 1806 written by Sir Eyre Coote, Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica to Vice Admiral Sir John Duckworth, Commander in Chief at Jamaica 1803-5 reporting the capture of Brig. Generals Balfour and Montresor and requesting that the enemy (General Farrand) should effect and exchange. Letter 2 is a reply by Sir John Duckworth, Commander in Chief at Jamaica 1803-5, Port Royal Jamaica February 23, 1806 to Sir Eyre Coote stating it would be against the law to exchange his prisoners as St. Domingo cannot be deemed their country, but that there should be no difficulty in effecting an exchange according to ordinary tariffs.
