There are two (2) volumes of letters ; volume one (1)is dated April 1807 - January 1809, it contains letters sent to Eyre Coote, Lieutenant Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Jamaica, and written mostly from Montego Bay. Volume two (2) is dated April 1808 - October 1809, with the majority of letters addressed to Lieutenant. Col. Gordon, Secretary of the Commander-in-chief, and written from letter books of ... Carmichael. Volume one (1) was purchased from Edward Hall, England, in July, 1957 and Volume two (2) purchased by Ansell Hart from T. Goddard, London, and presented to West India Reference Library in November 1957. Volume one (1) as some specific sections which are inclusive of: 1) April 21, 1807. Military and defense matters; 2) System of signals. f. cases (f.2) ; at Montego Bay: a report (f. 4bbss) ; military; 3) accidents - explosion of gun, f. 20b) ; Rosehall, f.32 ; 4) Mount Calvary ib. signalposts in w. of Jamaica (Falmouth, Mt. Arrarat, Lucea, Sav-la-Mar) f, 49b and 5) 56bs. Arrival of Phoenix, 90b. The first entry for volume one (1) was on the 21st of April 1807 and the last entry was the 27th of January 1809. The volume was type-written from Edward Hall on the 24th of May 1957.
